Heavy Snow… Again

Saturday December 18, 2010

BBC ImageMore heavy snow today here in Rochester.  Gatwick has been closed again and the roads in Rochester are getting covered in the white stuff.

Nothing much will be moving later today and the Dahon is still stuck inside – there’s no way that’s getting out this weekend.  The latter half of this year has been pretty poor for cycling and the bikes haven’t been out a great deal.  😦

It Just Keeps Snowing

Saturday January 9, 2010

Lots of snow.  Snow and more snow.  The roads and pavements around here have been pretty bad over the past week as the UK suffers under the cold weather.

I really do need some snow tyres on the bikes!

Took a (slow and careful) walk out yesterday and stumbled across the Kent Air Ambulance just sitting in the park.  Somebody out enjoying the snow, sledging, had had an accident and was being treated by the emergency services (hope that person is going to be okay).  There were around five police cars, an ambulance and the air ambulance in attendance.  I took some shots of the helicopter and the police cars (after the patient had left for the hospital).

No Cycling (again) – Snowed In

Sunday December 20, 2009

A weekend of snow.  Thursday night / Friday morning saw heavy snowfall over the South East so roads were closed and travel chaos ensued.  Although the snow (and ice) prevented me cycling this weekend, it did result in me having a day off on Friday!  😉

Took a long walk on Saturday afternoon in some local woodland and took the camera along with me.  More photos over on Flickr.

Blizzard Conditions

Headed out to the shops yesterday afternoon to get in some supplies for the week.  Put on many layers of clothes, gloves, hat and scarf.

As I left, with all my lights flashing on the Dahon, the snow was really coming down hard and the wind was blowing directly into my face.  Tough ride to the shops, about 1.5 miles, but got there in the end.  Locked the bike up and did my shopping.  The ride back was much better.

One of the things which helped was a Hedy.  I bought two years ago during an earlier biking phase and it’s a good bit of kit.  You can use it as a hat, face mask, neck warmer etc.  It’s basically a tubular piece of material but it is very useful.

I thought they’d stopped making them as their website has closed down but Halfords still sells them.  I’ve also noticed that you can get the same thing from Buff.  Check out their videos to see how many ways you can wear one – first video shows all.  Head over to Buff as they have lots of colours and options – including some reflective ones.  I’ll be buying more as my old Hedy ones are looking a bit rough.

I’m determined to get out on the bike this weekend!  I have things to do this morning and probably most of this afternoon but the bike will be out later or tomorrow!

However, people are talking about snow.  Let’s hope it doesn’t…

Time to check the weather via the Beeb.
