Welcome CraigsList Visitors!

Saturday October 10, 2009

Craigslist, the US-based advertising/community site, is sending a fair few visitors my way recently.

There’s a Dahon D7HG for sale in the SF Bay area (although it’s advertised as a D3/D7HG…).  Take a look if you’re over that side of the world and you’re looking for a Dahon.

Discs, Or Not?

Sunday June 21, 2009

Robert A., over on the Practical Cyclist blog, has posted an interesting article on the use of disc brakes on bikes.

When buying my Trek, I decided not to pay the extra few Pounds and buy the disc version but to stay with the simpler technology of the V-brake.  One of the key factors in my decision was that I understand how to repair and tune ’standard’ brakes but not hydraulic disc brakes (with their oil and goo) – and the possibility of having to learn how, during a ride miles from home one day, did not appeal at all!

Back to Robert’s post: it’s an interesting review of the physics of bicycle brakes and well worth a read if you’re just about to buy yourself a new bike.

Taga – Something A Little Different

Sunday May 10, 2009

Treehugger is one of my regular daily visits, one of the few sites I return to daily to see what’s happening in the world and this morning I found this bike.

A baby-carrying trike from Taga in the Netherlands, it is a “…multifunctional urban vehicle, uniquely designed to suit the needs of today’s parents and children. Taga combines the benefits of a premium stroller and carrier bicycle to create a new transportation modality“.

It’s not cheap at 1,800 Euros (~£1,600) but it does look pretty impressive.

Lots of photos and further information on the Taga website.

Bike Storage Idea

Saturday May 2, 2009

Stumbled across this photograph of someone’s apartment showing how they store their bikes.  It’s a great idea and a great way of coping with a full size / non-folder in a small home.

The rack is a Topeak Dual-Touch stand which they claim is:

An elegant solution for storing your bikes. Looks great in the house or in the garage.

I tend to agree and if I hadn’t sorted out the storage of my Trek, I’d certainly be considering getting one of these.

Ketchup – Cycle Commuter

Thursday April 16, 2009

The ‘Net is great as it gives you an insight into the world of others’.  I like to think that my blog does the same and that the photos I post enables people from around the world to see what it’s like around my part of the world.

I’ve been looking today at the Cycle Commuter blog and at the photos posted there.  The latest post, Ketchup, has a nice selection of images from the author’s commute.  It’s interesting to see how different the area is from Rochester.

I’ll be keeping an eye on the Cycle Commuter blog for more great pics.
